You return to Brussels this year as the defending Rolex Grand Prix champion. How does it feel to come back to a place where you experienced such an important victory?
It feels very special. Brussels will always be an important show for me because of what happened last year. It was one of the biggest wins of my career so far and an incredible moment to share with Dynastie and our whole team. Coming back brings back a lot of great memories and of course it makes me even more excited to compete there again.
What do you remember most vividly from your Rolex Grand Prix presented by Audi win last year?
Probably the feeling when I realized we had won. Everything happens so quickly that you don’t really have time to think about what it can mean. Then suddenly it was done and seeing my dad, our team, the Rein Family and everyone around us so happy made it even more special. Those are the moments we work for every day.
When you entered the arena for the second round, did you feel that victory was possible?
I knew Dynastie was in good form and capable of winning a GP like this. I was 100% motivated when I entered the arena, we had a real chance and I tried to give everything.
Has that victory changed anything for you, either in your career or in the way you approach major Grand Prix classes today?
I think every big experience helps you grow as a rider. Winning a GP like Brussels gives you confidence because you know that you and your horse are capable of doing it at that level. But at the same time our sport keeps you very humble. Every week is different, every course is different and nothing is ever guaranteed. I try to keep the same approach, work hard, listen to my horses and try to keep improving.
What makes the Brussels Stephex Masters different from other international events from a rider’s perspective?
Everything is done at a very high level and the atmosphere is really special! The arena, the crowd, the quality of the sport and all the details around the event make it a show that as a rider you really look forward to competing at. I also remember how the whole crowd stayed for the prize-giving ceremony last year, that made the victory even more special.
Coming back as defending champion, do you feel more pressure or even more motivation?
Probably more motivation than pressure!
What would it mean to win the Rolex Grand Prix presented by Audi for a second consecutive year?
It would be incredible! Now that I know what it feels like to win there, it makes me want to experience that feeling again even more!
17 riders from the world’s Top 30 are expected this year. What kind of competition are you expecting?
It’s going to be a very competitive Rolex Grand Prix, presented by Audi for sure! With so many of the world’s best riders and horses, you know the level will be very high and there will be very little room for mistakes. But that’s also what makes these GP classes so exciting. You want to compete against the best in the world and it pushes everyone to be at their best.
Finally, if you could describe your 2025 victory in Brussels in three words, what would they be?
Unforgettable, emotional and teamwork.
