Belgian trio fills the podium in first pony class
After several days of international sport and some of the biggest names in showjumping taking centre stage, Friday evening was also a moment for the next generation to show what they’re capable of. The first pony class of the Brussels Stephex Masters brought 25 young combinations to the Place de l’Atomium for a 90cm-1m Two Phase Special class.
And the Belgian riders certainly made their mark.
Rosanne van Mele and Rocky’s Ryan SB produced the fastest clear round of the second phase, stopping the clock at 20.96 seconds to take the first pony victory of the week.
Van Mele’s win completed a Belgian sweep of the top three. Camille Leemans and M’Gulliver followed in second place with another double clear in 22.77 seconds, while Jars Vermeir and Sparkling Sunny Holiday completed the podium in 23.20 seconds.
Young talent from across Europe
Great Britain’s Oakley Nash and Cadlandvalley Teddy Edward came very close to breaking up the Belgian podium, finishing fourth in 23.35 seconds. Fellow British rider Annabel Widdowson, riding Unphinx D’Hurl ’Vent, completed the top five.
For the pony riders, however, Friday was only the beginning. More pony classes are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, giving the young combinations another chance to experience the Brussels Stephex Masters atmosphere and show what they have in store.
