Four rankings are taking shape, but with the decisive Grand Prix classes still ahead, nothing has been won yet
After three days of competition at the Brussels Stephex Masters, the battles for the four Leading Rider titles are starting to take shape. From CSI1* all the way to CSI5*, consistency throughout the week is being rewarded, but the most important chapters are still to come. The final counting class in each ranking is its respective Grand Prix, meaning there are still plenty of points on offer over the weekend. And in several divisions, the margins could hardly be smaller.
Just 2.5 points separate the CSI1* leaders
The tightest battle can currently be found in the CSI1* ranking. Belgium’s Maxime Boelaert leads with 371.5 points, but compatriot Fleur Beyne is breathing down his neck on 369 points. South Africa’s Monique Becker is also very much in contention with 363 points, while American rider Sierra Wilson follows on 349.5. Great Britain’s Alex Atherton currently completes the top five with 316.5 points. With only 8.5 points separating the top three, there is virtually no room for error as the final classes approach.
Dutch riders set the pace in CSI2*
The Netherlands currently occupies the top two places in the CSI2* standings. Dennis van den Brink has built the biggest advantage of any of the four current leaders and sits on 347.5 points. Lieselot Kooremans follows in second with 299 points, while Belgium’s Daan Bernaerts holds third on 288.5. Marie Eder Ferrero of Monaco is close behind with 284 points, ahead of Dutch rider Logan Fiechter on 261. Van den Brink may have created some breathing room, but with the CSI2* Grand Prix still to come, the ranking is far from settled.
Anthony Wellens leads a strong Belgian charge
Belgium is particularly well represented at the top of the CSI3* classification. Anthony Wellens currently leads with 318.5 points, only 12 points ahead of France’s Alexis Lheureux, who has collected 306.5. Wilm Vermeir sits third on 303.5 points, meaning only 15 points separate the leading three. Another Belgian, Seppe Wouters, is fourth with 291 points, followed by Dutch rider Elize van de Mheen on 267. With several counting classes still ahead and the CSI3* Grand Prix waiting on Sunday, this could become one of the most interesting Leading Rider battles of the weekend.
Petronella Andersson on top in the CSI5*
At five-star level, Petronella Andersson has so far been the most consistent rider of the week. The Swedish rider leads the CSI5* standings with 293 points after repeatedly featuring near the top of the results. Belgium’s Frederic Vernaet is her closest challenger on 274.5 points, while Annelies Vorsselmans makes it two Belgians in the current top three with 259. Brazil’s Eduardo Pereira de Menezes is fourth on 257 points, just ahead of France’s Simon Delestre on 253.5. Martin Fuchs remains within striking distance in sixth with 245.5 points.
