“Ideal conditions brought out the best in my horses”
The opening day of the Brussels Stephex Masters delivered instant excitement in the CSI3* classes, with two 1.40m competitions on the programme. In the morning, victory in the CSI3* Top Series Presented by Dietz Blumen & Events went to Germany’s Rupert Carl Winkelmann riding Quinn 33 (Quidam de Revel x Contender | Holst). In the afternoon it was the home crowd’s turn to cheer, as Belgium’s Nathan Budd piloted Ogrion des Champs (Kashmir van Schuttershof x H’Aubigny de Talma | SF) to victory in the CSI3* Top Series Presented by Maxamaze.
Remarkably, Spain’s Sergio Alvarez Moya secured second place in both classes. He claimed the runner-up spot in the morning with Caen (Chacoon Blue x Clintissimo Z | Zang) and repeated the feat in the afternoon aboard Kannan’s Touch PS (Kannan GFE x Baloubet du Rouet | OS).
Sergio Alvarez Moya commented: “Both horses are young and still a bit green. The arenas here are impressive, so at first I thought I’d take it slow. But they immediately produced fantastic results. They clearly feel at home here, this is the perfect start. Tomorrow we’ll take it a step further. The conditions here are truly outstanding: the facilities, the organisation, the multiple arenas and the open spaces for quiet training… And the new Dansaert Arena is once again pure Stephex quality: perfect footing, beautifully laid out. I’ve been coming here for years, but this is the first time I’ve brought horses of this calibre. I’m excited to see what the rest of the week brings.”
